4 common wedding dress mistakes (and how to avoid them)
Almost every bride looks forward to going wedding dress shopping but sometimes, in the excitement of it all, it becomes easy to make mistakes. To ensure you’re making the best choices when it comes to bridal dress shopping, we’ve outlined the 4 common mistakes to try and avoid.
The majority of dresses take 6 months to arrive after order and this is before any alterations have been done. We recommend starting your search 9-12 months before your big day to ensure your selection isn’t limited. You don’t want to find your dream dress only to find out it won’t be ready in time. Starting your search late can also cause you unnecessary stress and panic which is the last thing you want!
2) Wearing the wrong underwear
Without the right undergarments, your gown may look uneven in some places and may make you feel uncomfortable. For example a slinky, tighter dress will require underwear with no seam to ensure it is not seen. Its a good idea to ask your bridal consultant’s advice on the best underwear to wear with your dress and make sure you try the whole combination on before the wedding.
3) Buying a dress you don’t love
Its so important that you absolutely love your dress. Some brides buy a dress they don’t love for a few reasons; whether its because they got caught up in the moment or that they let other peoples opinions sway their choice. Don’t aim to please anyone but yourself, remember you’re the one wearing the dress and more importantly, its your wedding!
4) Shopping without a set budget
Although this seems harmless, by going shopping without a budget, you run the risk of falling in love with something you cannot afford. This can then make you feel disheartened, ruining your whole experience. It’s a good idea to take time before your appointment to decide on a budget, making sure to include the alterations cost. Your bridal consultant will also find it easier to help you find your dream dress if you know how much you are looking to spend.
